How do u make cat learn to speak english?

got cat but cannott teach it any words is this normal?? had cat for 2 fortnights and has nt learned even 1 word xcept says someting like 'merrrrr?' what word is that saying? mar or mars or mer or myrrh (that is in the bible so may i have biblical cat)? and i learned mer is french for sea so maybe did i accidently get a french cat? i ordered american but is it now 2 late to return cat for better one that will speak right? i do not know french. thank u all
