38w4d pregnant and in extreme pain!?

Is this normal? the last couple nights, this is the third, i've had these very weird and extremely painful cramps on my sides. At first it was both sides and back, but now its my right side. It feels like the muscles are totally stretched out or something. It hurts to the point of tears, i can barely walk, and sleep all day. I was sick for the first 2 days/nights with a fever and loss of appetite. Well, my fever is down now and my appetite still isn't back. I hardly eat anything at all, actually. Anyways, I went to the Dr today and she acted as if all is well. She gave me some tylenol and some gastrointestinal meds and sent me off. Also, I am in a foreign country which is my huge concern. Is this all normal at this stage? I am in a lot of pain and I can't function i just sleep and sleep.... also, I've been havin sharp contractions throughout the day that last about 5-20 seconds each.... and very irregular. Sometimes 3 in a row, most times once every couple hours. Anyways, help please?
